Cheyenne Stable LLC’s Mastery will face just four other rivals for trainer Bob Baffert in the $300,000 Los Alamitos Cash Call Futurity (G1) for two-year-olds to be contested at a mile and a sixteenth trip on Saturday at Los Alamitos Race Course. We’ll focus on the West Coast this weekend, specifically a pair of Grade One stakes events for juveniles at Los Alamitos Race Course—the $300,000 Los Alamitos Cash Call Futurity (G1) and the $300,000 Starlet (G1), both to be contested at a mile at a sixteenth.

Bob Baffert holds the record for most wins by a trainer in the Los Alamitos Cash Call Futurity (G1)—previously the Hollywood Futurity—with eight, and he will send out the prohibitive favorite in this year’s renewal with the Candy Ride (Arg) colt Mastery, a perfect two-for-two in his career and winner of the Bob Hope Stakes (G3) at Del Mar on November 19 in his first start against winners.

Baffert also holds a strong hand in the Starlet (G1) for the fillies, as his barn has a formidable uncoupled entry in the form of American Gal, third in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) in her most recent outing, and Fact of Life, a six-figure yearling purchase that has never missed the trifecta from three starts lifetime.

Post time for the Los Alamitos Cash Call Futurity (G1), the sixth race on Los Alamitos’ nine-race Saturday program, is 5:58 P.M. Eastern. The Starlet (G1)—the eighth race on the card—will go off at 6:58 P.M. Eastern.
