Lurking wet weather figures to be the proverbial fly in the ointment of the stakes program at Fair Grounds and Santa Anita this weekend–leaving the turf black-type races in New Orleans in jeopardy and the already small field in the in the Santa Monica (G2) destined for the slop and out of consideration for this week’s Spot Plays.

With that in mind, I’ll break down the a couple of races on the road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1)–the $200,000 LeComte Stakes (G3) in New Orleans and the $100,000 California Derby at Golden Gate Fields in Albany, California. Additionally, with the first weekend in May in mind, I’ll provide a free analysis and have selections for the $150,000 Silverbulletday Stakes at Fair Grounds, a race with implications on the journey to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Oaks (G1).

Don’t miss next week’s installment, where I’ll not only dissect Gulfstream Park’s Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), but also the supporting six stakes races on the undercard.
