Churchill Downs Full-Card Analysis: Friday, June 16, 2017

The featured eighth race on the Friday, June 16 program at Churchill Downs is a competitive $62,000 optional claiming/second-tier allowance affair for three-year-olds and upward going five-furlongs on the Matt Winn Turf Course.

The turf dash attracted a field of nine led by 5-2 morning line favorite Maniacal, a chestnut son of Kitten’s Joy owned and trained by Wesley Ward that has never been worse than third from six lifetime starts and is grade two stakes placed sprinting on dirt at Saratoga. Shadow Rock, the 7-2 second choice, is coming off a minor stakes win at Canterbury Park for trainer Mike Maker and is one of three entrants in the field with a prior win on the grass in Louisville to his credit.

The Green Sheet touted a pair of winners on Thursday evening’s program in Louisville and 28 days into the meet, The Sheet is hitting at a 27 percent strike rate with its’ top selection in each race finishing in the money 62 percent of time.

Post time for the first of nine races on the Friday, June 16 program at Churchill Downs is 12:45 P.M. Eastern. The card features a 13-day carryover of $99,015 in the 20-cent Single 6 Jackpot.
