Saratoga Selections by Frank Lyons: Friday, July 21, 2017
The Green Sheet will expand its handicapping coverage this summer, as Frank Lyons–Breeder’s Cup winning trainer and former on-air personality with Television Games Network (TVG)–has signed on to give his selections for the upcoming meet at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York, which kicks off its 40-day summer stand on Friday, July 21.
In addition to a multi-year stint as a host and racing analyst on TVG, Lyons saddled 1995 Breeder’s Cup Sprint (G1) winner Desert Stormer. He also bought and campaigned Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Castledale. He’s currently a bloodstock agent and the host of a weekly radio show in Lexington, Kentucky.
Friday’s opening day program at Saratoga has 10 races on the agenda highlighted by a pair of black-type events–the $150,000 Schuylerville Stakes (G3) for two-year-old fillies going six-furlongs on the main track, and the $150,000 Lake George Stakes (G3T) for sophomore fillies going a mile and a sixteenth on the grass.
