Ellis Park Selections By John Gaver III: Friday, September 1, 2017
Ellis Park will kick off its extended Labor Day weekend on Friday, September 1 at the Henderson, Ky. oval, and with a 100 percent chance of rain in the forecast–remnants of Hurricane Harvey–there is an above average chance that the eight-race program will be contested under “sloppy” conditions with no turf racing.
The highlight on the card is the featured eighth race, a $41,000 entry-level allowance event for three-year-olds and up going eight-furlongs on the main track. Albaugh Family Stable, LLC’s Watch Me Whip, who is coming off a respectable fourth-place finish in the Indiana Derby (G3) on July 15 for trainer Dale Romans, has been installed as the 2-1 morning line favorite in the field of 12 entrants. Jockey Robby Albarado has the call on Watch Me Whip–a $330,000 son of Smart Strike–who will break from post position three.
The Green Sheet gave out five winners on the Sunday, August 27 nine-race program at Ellis Park and on the day, The Sheet had a positive 19% return on investment (ROI*), or a flat-bet profit of 38 cents for each $2 wagered on its top selections. 28 days into the summer stand at “The Pea Patch”, The Sheet is hitting at a 27 percent win clip; its top selection in each race has finished in the money 67 percent of time.

*Return on investment is calculated by placing a hypothetical $2 win wager on all top selections and dividing the net profit by the total amount wagered.
