Churchill Downs Selections by John M. Gaver III: Sunday, October 1, 2017

The 2017 September Meet at Churchill Downs comes to an end on Sunday, October 1 but not before the venerable Louisville racetrack hosts a 10-race closing day program highlighted by the featured ninth on the card, a $53,000 first-tier allowance affair for fillies and mares three-years-old and up going a mile and a sixteenth on the Matt Winn Turf Course.

Sunday’s program also has a sizable nine-day, $78,527 carryover in the 20-cent Single 6 Jackpot with a mandatory payout on the final day of the meet.

The Green Sheet had five winners on Saturday’s 11-race program in Louisville and gave out a $323 superfecta and a $196 trifecta in the listed Jefferson Cup Stakes. On the day, The Sheet had a 27 percent return on investment (ROI*), or a flat-bet profit of 55 cents for each two dollars wagered on its top selections. 10 days into Churchill’s 11-day September stand, The Sheet is hitting at a 31 percent strike rate; its top selections have finished in the money 59 percent of the time.

For the meet to date, The Sheet has a positive 20 percent ROI, or a flat-bet profit of 40 cents for each two dollars wagered on its top selections.

*Return on investment is calculated by placing a hypothetical $2 win wager on all top selections and dividing the net profit by the total amount wagered.
