Keeneland Selections by John M. Gaver III: Saturday, October 7, 2017

“Fall Stars Weekend” continues at Keeneland Race Course on Saturday, October 7 with a 10-race program on the agenda highlighted by five graded stakes races– the $200,000 Woodford Stakes Presented by Keeneland Select (G2T), the $250,000 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2), the $400,000 First Lady Stakes (G1T), the $500,000 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1), and the $1,000,000 Shadwell Turf Mile (G1T).

The Shadwell Turf Mile (G1T), the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1), the First Lady Stakes (G1T), and the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2) are all Breeder’s Cup “Win and You’re In” events, meaning the winner of the aforementioned races earns an automatic berth into the 2017 Breeder’s Cup World Championships to be held at Del Mar on November 3-4.

The Green Sheet had a pair of winners on Friday’s opening day program at Keeneland and gave out a healthy $907 superfecta and a $398 trifecta in the first race on the card, in addition to a $853 superfecta in the day’s fifth.

Due to time constraints, I will only be providing selections and comments for today’s program at Keeneland. My full-card analysis will resume with the Sunday, October 8 card.
