Keeneland Selections by John M. Gaver III: Sunday, October 8, 2017

Rain may dampen the festivities, but it won’t stop the action on the final day of “Fall Stars Weekend” at Keeneland, as the venerable Lexington, Ky. race course plays host to a 10-race program highlighted by a pair of black type events– the $500,000 Juddmonte Spinster (G1), for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward going nine-furlongs on the main track, and the $250,000 Dixiana Bourbon Stakes (G3T), for two-year-olds going a mile and a sixteenth trip on the grass.

Both races are Breeder’s Cup “Win and You’re In” events, as the winner earns an automatic berth into the 2017 Breeder’s Cup World Championships to be held at Del Mar on November 3-4.

Sunday’s Keeneland program also has a $26,994 carryover in the $1 Pick 6.

The Green Sheet had a pair of winners on Saturday’s program at Keeneland and gave out a $245 superfecta in the third race on the card. Two days into the nascent 2017 Fall Meet, The Sheet is hitting at a 20 percent strike rate; its top selections have finished in the money 50 percent of the time.

Due to time constraints, I will only be providing selections and comments for today’s program at Keeneland. My full-card analysis will resume with the Wednesday, October 12 card.
