Churchill Downs Selections by John M. Gaver III: Thursday, November 23, 2017

The action at Churchill Downs on Thanksgiving Day gets started early with a special 11:30 A.M. (Eastern) first post at the venerable Louisville, Ky. racetrack to accommodate a 12-race program highlighted by a pair of black type events–the 102nd renewal of the $200,000 Falls City Handicap (G2) for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward going nine-furlongs on the main track, and the 40th running of the $100,000 River City Handicap (G3T), for three-year-olds and up going a mile and a sixteenth trip on the Matt Winn Turf Course.

Additionally, the program has a beefy five-day, $75,991 carryover in the 20-cent Single 6 Jackpot, and a two-day, $5,293 carryover in the $1 Super High 5.
