My name is John Gaver, and I have been giving away Thoroughbred horse racing picks via my blog under the moniker The Green Sheet for the past year and a half, providing horse racing enthusiasts a concise analysis of the day’s program in an easy to understand format.
In 2017, I gave out 333 winners from 1,309 races on the Kentucky circuit, encompassing Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Ellis Park, and Kentucky Downs, for a cumulative 25 percent strike rate; my top selections finished in the money 60 percent of the time last year.
At the recently concluded 2017-18 Gulfstream Park Championship Meet, I doped out 272 winners from 924 races for a 29 percent win clip; top selections finished in the money 64 percent of the time.

For the remainder of 2018, in order to compensate for overhead and sweat equity, my annotated picks will be available on all live racing days for the aforementioned race meets and events for $4 in the form of a new product called Steam, which will be unveiled online at www.thesteampicks.com on the opening day of Keeneland’s 2018 Spring Meet. Weekly, monthly, and yearly subscriptions to Steam will be available soon.
In addition to full-card annotated picks, each edition of Steam will include the value-enhanced content Spot Plays, Live Longshots, and a multi-race exotic betting strategy. Additionally, I’ll be giving out a free spotlight play of the day.
We’ll be revamping the website, so don’t be surprised to see some dynamic changes and updates the next few days, however we will be up and running anew well before the call to post for the first race of Keeneland’s 2018 Spring Meet on Friday, April 6.
Handicapping horse races is a labor-intensive task that I find both enjoyable and challenging and, at times, very profitable. For a minimal risk versus reward investment, I’ll take the guesswork out of dissecting a race card and give you a clear picture of how the day will unfold so you can enjoy an engaged, profitable day at the track.
In closing, I’d like to give a big shout out to all my blog followers and 1,000-plus Twitter followers @keeneroad for all your support the past 18 months. Best of luck! See you at the races! —JG
