Steam’s Preakness 143 Graded Line
A customary nine-race Friday afternoon program is on the agenda at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. on May 18.
The featured sixth race on the card is a $62,500 optional claiming/second-tier allowance event for three-year-olds and upward slated for a five and one half-furlong trip on the Matt Winn Turf Course.
Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Chiltern Street, a six-year-old chestnut son of Giant’s Causeway out of the grade one winning racemare Marleybone, is the 5-2 morning line favorite for trainer Wesley Ward in a field of seven that also includes a pair of main track only entrants.
Additionally, the card has a substantial $425,999 carryover in the 20-cent Single 6 Jackpot (races 4-9)–a wager that has a 15 percent takeout–and a $12,207 carryover in the $1 Super High Five.
Steam touted three winners on Thursday’s eight-race “Twilight Thursday” program at Churchill Downs and, on the day, had a positive 18 percent return on investment (ROI*), or a flat-bet profit of 35 cents for each two dollars wagered on its top selections on the card. 11 days into the 2018 Spring stand in Louisville, Steam is hitting at a 27 percent win clip; its top selections have finished in the money 59 percent of the time.
