10 Race Program On Tap As Churchill Kicks Off September Meet
Churchill Downs opens its 11-day September meet on Friday, September 14 with an excellent 10-race program on tap at the venerable Louisville, Ky. racetrack.
The featured ninth race on the program is a salty $100,000 optional claiming, “two other than” allowance affair for three-year-olds and upward going seven-furlongs on the main track.
Three Chimneys Farm’s Principe Guilherme is the 3-1 morning line favorite in a field that was scratched down to seven entrants with the late defections of Dak Attack and Madison’s Luna. Jockey Julien Leparoux will handle the riding assignment on the bay son of Tapit for Hall of Fame conditioner Steve Asmussen.
Jockey Corey Lanerie is back to defend his September 2017 riding title at Churchill, where he notched 15 more wins than Florent Geroux and Brian Hernandez, Jr. with a record setting 25 trips to the winner’s circle; trainers Brad Cox and Kenny McPeek shared the training title with seven wins apiece.
