Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky. kicks off its 17-day October race meet with FallStars Weekend–10 stakes races over a three day period, nine with Breeder’s Cup “Win And You’re In” implications.

The 10-race opening day program is highlighted by a pair of graded stakes events–the $250,000 Stoll, Keenon, Ogden Phoenix Stakes (G2) for three-year-olds and upward sprinting six-furlongs on the main track, and the $400,000 Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) for two-year-old fillies slated for an eight and one half-furlong trip on dirt.

Robert J. Baron’s Promises Fulfilled, a three-year-old son of Shackleford coming off a pair of razor-sharp graded stakes wins at Saratoga, has been installed as the 8-5 morning line selection in the Stoll, Keenon, Ogden Phoenix Stakes (G2)–his first start facing older rivals–in small, albeit select field of six. Jockey Luis Saez has the call for trainer Dale Romans.

Three Chimneys Farm, LLC and Fern Circle Thoroughbreds’ Restless Rider is the 3-1 morning line choice in the Darley Alcibiades (G1), a two-turn affair that attracted a beefy field of 14. The Kenny McPeek trainee is a perfect two-for-two in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is coming off a second-place finish in the Spinaway Stakes (G1) at Saratoga. Regular rider Brian Hernandez, Jr. will be aboard the gray daughter of Distorted Humor.

Cox, Ortiz, And Ward To Defend Keeneland Titles

steam_kee_fall_2018_logoJockey Jose Ortiz, Jr., who was the leading rider at Keeneland this spring with 14 wins, and trainers Brad Cox and Wesley Ward, who tied for spring meet leading trainer honors with 13 wins apiece, will be back to defend their respective titles this fall.

Julien Leparoux won the 2017 fall meet riding title with 15 wins, and trainer Mike Maker secured the trainer’s title last fall with 13 victories.

Post time for the first of 10 races at Keeneland on Friday, October 5 is 1:05 P.M. (Eastern). Additionally, there is a $200,000 guaranteed late pick four (Races 7-10) presented by Television Games Network (TVG). Furthermore, the first 3,000 patrons (18 and older) through the gates on Friday, October 5 will receive a voucher to redeem a Darley umbrella.
