Gulfstream Park jump starts a weekend of live Thoroughbred racing in South Florida on Friday, December 7, as the Hallandale Beach racetrack plays host to a 10-race program.

The featured eighth race on the card is a $62,500 optional claiming, classified allowance event for three-years-olds and upward slated for a one-turn, flat-mile trip on the main track.

The eight-furlong test marks the return to the races for a pair of graded stakes winners–West Point Thoroughbreds, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Eric Young, and R. A. Hill Stables’ Breaking Lucky and Shadwell Stables’ Shagaf.

Breaking Lucky, a chestnut son of Lookin At Lucky, last started in the September 29 Lukas Classic Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs, where he finished last in a field of eight and Shagaf, who returns off a near 20-month layoff and will make his second start since having chips removed from his left knee and ankle, will vie for favoritism in the full field of 11. Jockey Luis Saez has the call on Breaking Lucky for trainer George Weaver, and Irad Ortiz, Jr. will be astride Shagaf, a bay son of Bernardini, for trainer Chad Brown.
