Inaugural Palisades Turf Sprint Jump Starts Meet

Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky., who will play host to 18 stakes races worth a season-record $4.6 million this Spring, begins its 16-day April race meet on Thursday, April 4–a day earlier than the norm–with a special 3:00 P.M. (Eastern) post time, a new stakes race on the docket, and live music following the last race on the card.

The eight-race opening day program is highlighted by the inaugural running of the the $100,000 Palisades Turf Stakes for three-year-olds sprinting five and one half-furlongs on the Haggin Turf Course.

WinStar Farm, LLC, China Horse Club International, Ltd., and SF Racing, LLC’s Bulletin, who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint when he was last seen at the races last November, is the 2-1 morning line favorite in a full-field of 14 that also includes a pair of also eligible entrants. Jockey Javier Castellano has the call on the chestnut son of City Zip for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Geroux, Cox, And Ward Return To Defend Titles

blue_grass_stakes_logoJockey Florent Geroux, who was the leading rider at Keeneland last Spring with 20 wins, and trainers Brad Cox and Wesley Ward, who tied for the Spring Meet leading trainer honors with 13 wins apiece, will be back to defend their respective titles in 2019.

Tyler Gaffalione won the 2018 Fall Meet riding title in Lexington, Ky. with 15 wins, and trainer Todd Pletcher annexed the trainer’s title with nine victories.

Post time for the first of eight races at Keeneland on Thursday, April 4 is 3:00 P.M. (Eastern). Gates open at 1:00 P.M. (Eastern).

Additionally, there will be a jockey autograph signing to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund from 1:30-2:30 P.M. (Eastern). The event will take place near the Walking Ring.

Finally, Keeneland is joining forces with the Downtown Lexington Partnership to host Central Bank “Thursday Night Live” for the first time. The event, which will feature live music provided by Keeneland and The Burl–a popular live music venue in Lexington–will take place in the Paddock beginning at 7:00 P.M. (Eastern).
