Churchill Downs celebrates a trifecta of Kentucky pride–great Thoroughbred horse racing, bourbon whiskey, and music–on Thursday, May 2 under the famed Twin Spires, affectionately known as Thurby Presented by Old Forester.

An 11-race program is on tap highlighted by a pair of black-type events on the Matt Winn Turf Course–the $115,000 Opening Verse Stakes for three-year-olds and upward slated for a flat mile trip, and the $125,000 Unbridled Sidney Stakes for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward sprinting five and one half-furlongs.

Jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. has the call on the bay son of Stormy Atlantic for Hall of Fame conditioner Bill Mott.

In the Unbridled Sidney Stakes, G. Watts Humphrey, Jr.’s Morticia, fresh off a win in the $100,000 Giant’s Causeway Stakes at Keeneland on April 13, is the 3-1 morning line favorite in a competitive field of 10. Irad Ortiz, Jr. is back for a return engagement on the daughter of Twirling Candy for trainer Rusty Arnold.
