An excellent 10-race card featuring a pair of black-type events is on tap on Sunday, August 11 at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky., closing out another live Thoroughbred racing week in the Tri-State Area.

The co-featured stakes races–the $125,000 Groupie Doll Stakes Presented By Field and Main Bank for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward going eight-furlongs on the main track, and the $100,000 Ellis Park Derby Presented by Kruckemeyer and Cohn Jewelry, for three-year-olds going eight-panels on dirt–are included in 50-cent Pick 4 and Pick 5 wagers.

In the Groupie Doll Stakes, Jerry Marks Stables, LLC’s Moonlit Garden, who is coming off an open-length win in the $100,000 Iowa Distaff Stakes at Prairie Meadows on July 6, is the definitive 7-5 morning line favorite in a compact field of six. Jockey Florent Geroux has the call on the daughter of Malibu Moon for trainer Brad Cox.

Finally, in the Ellis Park Derby, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Gary Barber’s Gray Magician, second behind the multiple stakes winner Mr. Money when he was last seen at the races in the Indiana Derby (G3) on July 13, is the 5-2 morning line choice in a field that was scratched down to nine entrants. Corey Lanerie will be astride the son of Graydar for trainer Peter Miller.
