4 Stakes On Saturday’s Opening Day Program

Kentucky Downs kicks off its brief, albeit lucrative, five-day “Runhappy Meet” on Saturday, August 31–Labor Day weekend– in Franklin, Ky. with a 10-race, all turf program.
The card is highlighted by four stakes races–the $250,000 One Dreamer Stakes, the $750,000 Tourist Mile Stakes, the $500,000 Gainesway Farm Juvenile Stakes, and the $500,000 Exacta Systems Juvenile Fillies Stakes.
$11.5 Million Offered At Meet
Kentucky Downs offers $11.5 million in purses and supplements over its five day meet to be conducted on August 31 and September 5, 7, 8, and 12. Furthermore, the track cut its takeout rate on Pick 4 wagers in 2018 from 19 to 14 percent.
145 horses were entered on Saturday’s opening day card. As a result, eight of the 10 races on the program were oversubscribed. Post time for the first of 10 heats at Kentucky Downs on Saturday, August 31 is 1:15 P.M. (Central).
Ortiz, Maker, Ramsey’s Back To Defend Titles
Ken and Sarah Ramsey–Kentucky Downs’ all-time leading owner by wins–will try to annex their eighth consecutive owner’s title and tenth overall at the track.
Additionally, Jockey Jose Ortiz, Jr., last year’s leading rider at the meet with nine wins, and Mike Maker, the leading trainer for the past four years in Franklin, Ky. will return in 2019 to defend their respective titles.
