The featured ninth race on the program is the $250,000 Old Friends Stakes for three-year-olds and upward that have not won a sweepstakes in 2019 slated for a one mile and 70-yard trip on the turf.

Flurry Racing Stables, LLC’s Mr. Misunderstood, who will try to garner his first win of 2019, is the tepid 4-1 morning line favorite in a full field of 11 entrants. Jockey Florent Geroux has the call on the five-year-old son of Archarcharch for trainer Brad Cox.

Jockey Florent Geroux got off to a hot start by winning three races on the opening day program at Kentucky Downs on Saturday, August 31.

The native of Argentan, France won the third race on the card for trainer Tom Amoss with Hoffman Family Racing, LLC’s Mick’s Star ($14.40), then annexed the fifth race for trainer Brad Cox with Juddmonte Farm, Inc.’s Solent ($21.60). He capped off the day with a win in the $500,000 Exacta Systems Juvenile Fillies Stakes, also for the Brad Cox barn, with Ilium Stables, LLC’s Jezebel’s Kitten ($10.40).

In addition to trainer Brad Cox’s two wins on the opening day program, trainer Mark Casse’s outfit also led over a pair of winners–both in stakes races. Stonestreet Stables, LLC’s Hanalei Moon ($12) won the $250,000 One Dreamer Stakes under jockey Tyler Gaffalione, and JSM Equine, LLC’s Peace Achieved ($12) was victorious in the $500,000 Gainesway Farm Juvenile Stakes.

Finally, it’s worth noting that the average win mutuel on opening day at Kentucky Downs was a healthy $17.82. Silverton Hill, LLC’s Hellorhighwater (4-1) was the shortest priced winner on the card.
