Two Stake Races Anchor Sunday’s Program

A 10-race program featuring two stakes and three $100,000 starter allowance races serving as preps for the Claiming Crown at Gulfstream Park on December 7 is on the docket at Kentucky Downs in Franklin, Ky. on Sunday, September 8.

The $350,000 Fifth Third Insurance Dueling Grounds Oaks for three-year-old fillies and the $600,000 Exacta Systems Dueling Grounds Derby for three-year-olds are the highlights on the card. Both races will be contested at one and five-sixteenths miles on the turf.

Three Chimneys Farm’s Princesa Carolina, a gray daughter of Tapit, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in the Oaks; Jose Ortiz, Jr. has the call for trainer Kenny McPeek. Additionally, The Elkstone Group, LLC’s Social Paranoia, a New York-based son of Street Boss, is the 2-1 morning line choice in the Derby. Jose Ortiz, Jr. will be in the irons for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Steam Touts $18 Winner On Saturday’s Card

Steam touted one winner–Cambria, who beat the boys in the $500,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint Stakes and paid a healthy $18 in the process–on Saturday’s 10-race card at Kentucky Downs and, consequently, has a 13 percent win clip three days into the brief five-day stand. Furthermore, Steam‘s top-pick selections have finished in the money 53 percent of the time at the meet.
