Turf Sprinters Square Off In Opening Day Feature

Keeneland Race Course kicks off its unprecedented, five-day summer race meet on Thursday, July 8 with a nine-race program on tap at the venerable Lexington, Ky. racetrack.
The featured eighth race on the card is a $80,000 non-classified allowance affair for three-year-olds sprinting five and one half-furlongs on the Haggin Turf Course.
Tom R. Durant’s Digital, who will be making his turf debut, is the 3-1 morning line choice in a field that attracted 11 horses in the body of the race and one main track only entrant. Jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr. has the call on the the three-year-old bay son of Into Mischief for trainer Bret Calhoun.
Geroux, Ward Back To Defend Spring Meet Titles

Jockey Florent Geroux, who was the leading rider at Keeneland last spring with 15 wins, and trainer Wesley Ward, who claimed leading trainer honors with 11 winners, will be back to defend their respective titles in 2020, only in July instead of April.
Geroux is not named on any horses on the opening day program, while Ward has four entrants on the card.
Julien Leparoux won the 2019 Fall Meet riding title in Lexington, Ky. with 19 wins, and trainer Mike Maker annexed the trainer’s title with eight victories.
Post time for the first of nine races at Keeneland on Wednesday, July 8 is 1:05 P.M. (Eastern). Due to ongoing concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer meet will be conducted without spectators.
