Six Pack Of Stakes On Tap On Blue Grass Day

Six graded stakes races worth a total of $1.9 million in purse money is on tap at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky. on Saturday, July 11–the penultimate day of the 2020 summer meet.

The six black type events on an excellent 10-race program include the $250,000 Appalachian Stakes Presented by Japan Racing Association (G2T) for three-year-old fillies going eight-furlongs on the turf, the $250,000 Madison Stakes (G1) for fillies and mares four-years-old and upward slated for a seven-furlong trip on dirt, the $150,000 Shakertown Stakes (G2T) for three-year-olds and upward slated for a five and one half-furlong trip on the Haggin Turf Course, the $400,000 Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1) for three-year-old fillies going eight and one half-furlongs on the main track, the $350,000 Coolmore Jenny Wiley Stakes (G1T) for fillies and mares four-years-old and upward going eight and one half-furlongs on the turf, and the $600,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G2), a nine-furlong dirt test for three-year-olds.

In the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G2)–the card’s centerpiece–Peter J. Callahan’s Swiss Skydiver, who is the 3-1 morning line favorite in a full field of 13, will try to become the first filly to win the Grade 2 test since the race’s inception in 1937. Jockey Mike Smith will be astride the chestnut daughter of Daredevil for trainer Kenny McPeek.

$500,000 Guaranteed Pool In All-Stakes Pick 4

Post time for the first of 10 races at Keeneland on Saturday, July 11 is 1:05 P.M. (Eastern). Additionally, there is a $500,000 guaranteed pool in the 50-cent All-Stakes Pick 4 (races 6-9, 3:51 P.M. (Eastern) post time), and a $65,977 carryover in the $1 All-Stakes Pick 6 (races 4-9, 2:45 P.M. (Eastern) post time).

Due to ongoing concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer meet will be conducted without spectators.
