Quintet Of Stakes Highlight Stellar Saturday Card

Five stakes races worth a total of $3.2 million in purse money is on the agenda at Kentucky Downs on Saturday, September 12–the fourth day of the 2020 Runhappy Meet at the all-turf gallops in Franklin, Ky.

The five black type events–which encompass an All-Stakes Pick 5 (50-cent minimum, 14% takeout) beginning with race seven–include the $500,000 Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes (G3T), the $500,000 Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint Stakes (G3T), the $500,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint Stakes, the $1 million Calumet Farm Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes (G3T), and the $700,000 Runhappy Turf Sprint Stakes (G3T).

Michael Hui’s Zulu Alpha, a winner of three of his four starts in 2020, all in graded stakes, is the prohibitive 7-5 morning line favorite for the Kentucky Turf Cup (G3T)–Saturday’s signature event–a 12-furlong turf test for three-year-olds and upward. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione has the call on the seven-year-old son of Street Cry (Ire) for trainer Mike Maker.

Hat Trick, $4.66 ROI On Thursday’s Program

Steam touted three winners on Thursday’s 10-race program at Kentucky Downs and, as a result, had a positive 133 percent return on investment (ROI*), or a flat-bet profit of $2.66 for each two dollars wagered on its top selections on the card.

Three days into the 2020 meet in Franklin, Ky., Steam‘s top picks are winning at a 20 percent clip and have finished in the money 47 percent of the time.

Post time for the first race on Saturday’s program is 12:15 P.M. (Central). Additionally, there is a $5,433 carryover in the $1 Super Hi-5 (11th race, 5:36 P.M. (Central) post).

Racing will be conducted at Kentucky Downs spectator-free, in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the federal government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
