Two Graded Stakes Highlight Opening Day Card

Fall Stars Weekend–a bonanza of 10 stakes races with Breeders’ Cup implications–kicks off Keeneland Race Course’s 17-day fall meeting on Friday, October 2 at the historic Lexington, Ky. racetrack.

The 10-race card is highlighted by a pair of graded stakes events–the $200,000 Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes (G2) for three-year-olds and upward sprinting six-furlongs on dirt, and the $350,000 Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) for two-year-old fillies slated for an eight and one half-furlong trip on the main track.

Diamond 100 Racing Club, LLC, Amy E. Dunne, D P Racing, LLC, and Patrick L. Biancone Racing, LLC’s Diamond Oops, a five-year-old son of Lookin At Lucky, has been installed as the 3-1 morning line choice in the Phoenix Stakes (G2), which attracted a full field of 12 entrants. Jockey Florent Geroux will be astride the bay gelding for trainer Patrick Biancone.

In the Darley Alcibiades (G1), a two-turn test that attracted a compact field of seven, Phoenix Thoroughbred III, Ltd.’s Crazy Beautiful, second in the Pocahontas Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downsin her last start on September 3, is the 5-2 morning line favorite. Brian Hernandez, Jr. has the call on the gray daughter of Liam’s Map for trainer Kenny McPeek.

Leparoux, Maker To Defend Fall Meet Titles

Jockey Julien Leparoux, who was the leading rider at Keeneland last October with 19 wins, will be back to defend his title in 2020 and has six mounts on Friday’s program. Trainer Mike Maker, who has three entrants on opening day, annexed the training title last October at Keeneland, saddling eight winners.

Post time for the first of 10 races at Keeneland on Friday, October 2 is 1:05 P.M. (Eastern). Additionally, there is a $200,000 guaranteed pool in the late Pick 4 (Races 7-10, 4:30 P.M. (Eastern) post time) presented by Television Games Network (TVG).

Racing will be conducted at Keeneland this fall with limited spectators, in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the federal government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
