Juveniles In Spotlight As Fall Meet Begins
Churchill Downs begins its 24-day fall meeting on Sunday, October 25 with its “Stars of Tomorrow I” program–a card devoted exclusively to two-year-old racing.
Sunday’s 11-race program for the juveniles features a pair of 8.5-furlong stakes races–the $98,000 Rags to Riches Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, and the $98,000 Street Sense Stakes for two-year-olds.
In the Street Sense Stakes, Erv Woolsey and Keith Asmussen’s Super Stock is the prohibitive 8-5 morning line favorite in a compact field of six entrants. Jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr. has the call on the bay son of Dialed In for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen.
Kueber Racing, LLC’s Coach, who is a perfect two-for-two at Indiana Grand, is the 3-1 choice on the morning line in the Rags to Riches Stakes, which attracted a field of nine entrants. Jockey Florent Geroux will be astride the daughter of Commissioner for trainer Brad Cox.
Asmussen, Lanerie Back To Defend Titles
Steve Asmussen, the leading trainer at Churchill Downs’ 2019 fall meet with 23 wins, and jockey Corey Lanerie, who booted home 34 winners in Louisville, Ky. last fall, will return to defend their respective titles in 2020.
Post time for the first of 11 races at Churchill Downs on Sunday, October 25 is 1:00 P.M. (Eastern).
Live racing will be conducted under the Twin Spires Wednesdays through Sundays through November 29 with a daily post time of 1:00 P.M. (Eastern). Exceptions include Friday, November 6 (Breeders’ Cup day one at Keeneland) and Saturday, November 7 (Breeders’ Cup day two at Keeneland), and an 11:30 A.M. (Eastern) post time on Thursday, November 26, Thanksgiving Day.
Racing will be conducted at Churchill Downs this fall with limited spectators, in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the federal government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
