Turf Sprinters In Spotlight On Opening Day

The 2020-2021 Championship Meet at Gulfstream Park begins on Wednesday, December 2 with the first of 84 programs on tap at the Hallandale Beach, Fla. racetrack.

The featured ninth race on the 10-race card is a $25,000 optional claiming, “a other than” allowance test for fillies and mares three-year-olds and upward sprinting five-furlongs on the turf.

Tracy Farmer’s Catch a Thrill, who is stakes-placed on the grass at Gufstream Park, is the prohibitive 8-5 morning line choice in a field that attracted eight entrants. Jockey Cristian Torres has the call on the four-year-old bay daughter of City Zip for trainer Mark Casse.

Pletcher, Irad Ortiz Back To Defend Meet Titles

Trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr.–winners of the training and riding titles at the 2019-20 Championship Meet–will be be back to defend their respective titles in 2020-21. Pletcher has a pair starters on opening day while Ortiz, Jr. has yet to move his tack to South Florida from New York.
