Blue Grass Goes Through Essential Quality
Keeneland Race Course wraps up an abbreviated Easter weekend on Saturday, April 3, but not before the historic Lexington, Ky. racetrack plays host to a stakes-laden 11 race program.
The card is highlighted by six stakes races–the $200,000 Appalachian Stakes Presented By Japan Racing Association (G2T), the $200,000 Commonwealth Stakes (G3), the $200,000 Shakertown Stakes (G2T), the $400,000 Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1), the $300,000 Madison Stakes (G1), and the $800,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G2).
In the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G2)–the card’s crown jewel–Godolphin, LLC’s Essential Quality–2020’s champion two-year-old colt by virtue of his victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) last fall at Keeneland–is the definitive 3-5 morning line choice in a field that attracted nine entrants. Jockey Luis Saez has the call on the gray son of Tapit for trainer Brad Cox.
$500,000 Guaranteed Pools In All-Stakes Pick 4, 5
Steam gave out a pair of winners on Friday’s 10-race opening day program at Keeneland and, as a result, one day into the nascent 2021 Spring Meet in Lexington, Ky., its top picks are winning at a 20 percent clip and have finished in the money 70 percent of the time.
Post time for the first of 11 races at Keeneland on Saturday, April 3 is 1:05 P.M. (Eastern). Additionally, there is a $500,000 guaranteed pool in the 50-cent All-Stakes Pick 5 (races 7-11, 4:24 P.M. (Eastern) post time), and a $500,000 guaranteed pool in the 50-cent All-Stakes Pick 4 (races 8-11, 4:57 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
Racing will be conducted at Keeneland this April with limited spectators, in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the federal government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
