Belichick Makes Seasonal Debut In Feature

The second “Twilight Thursday” of the 2021 Spring Meeting kicks-off a four-day week of Thoroughbred racing at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. on Thursday, May 13. The eight-race program has a later than normal 5:00 P.M. (Eastern) post time.

The featured seventh race on the card is a $102,000 first-tier allowance affair for three-year-olds and upward going eight and one half-furlongs on the Matt Winn Turf Course.

LNJ Foxwoods and NK Racing’s Belichick, second in the Grade 2 Ontario Derby at Woodbine in his last start, is the 2-1 morning line choice in a field that attracted 10 entrants. Jockey Julien Leparoux will be astride the four-year-old bay son of Lemon Drop Kid for trainer Josie Carroll.

Steam gave out a pair of winners on Sunday’s 10-race program at Churchill Downs and, as a result, 10 days into the 2021 Spring Meet in South Louisville, its top picks are winning at a 28 percent clip and have finished in the money 53 percent of the time. Additionally, there is a $10,206 carryover in the 20-cent Derby City 6 (races 3-8, 5:58 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
