Churchill Downs closes the proverbial curtain on a four-day week of live Thoroughbred racing action in Derby City, but not before the historic Louisville, Ky. racetrack plays host to a nine race program under the Twin Spires on Sunday, May 16.

The featured seventh race on the card is a $62,500 optional claiming / second-level allowance affair for three-year-olds and upward sprinting 5.5-furlongs on the Matt Winn Turf Course.

Joseph W. Sutton’s Chaps, who will be making his six-year-old debut, is the 3-1 morning line choice in a field that attracted 11 entrants. Jockey Julien Leparoux will be astride the bay son of More Than Ready for trainer Eddie Kenneally.

Steam Touts Two Winners On Saturday’s Card

Steam gave out a pair of winners on Saturday’s 11-race program at Churchill Downs and, as a result, 13 days into the 2021 Spring Meet in South Louisville, its top picks are winning at a 26¬†percent clip and have finished in the money 54 percent¬†of the time.

Post time for the first of nine races at Churchill Downs on Sunday, May 16 is 12:45 P.M. (Eastern). Additionally, there is a $55,043 carryover in the 20-cent Derby City 6 (Races 4-9, 2:13 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
