Churchill Downs closes out a four-day week of live Thoroughbred racing action in Louisville, Ky. with a 10-race program on the docket on Sunday, May 23 in Derby City.

The ninth race on the card–the nominal feature– is a $62,500 optional claiming / second-tier allowance event for three-year-olds and upward slated for nine-furlong trip on the Matt Winn Turf Course.

Michael M. Hui, Hooties Racing, LLC, and WSS Racing, LLC’s Hay Dakota, an eight-year-old veteran campiagner who has earned over $500,000 lifetime, is the 2-1 morning line favorite in a field that attracted eight entrants. Jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr. has the call on the bay son of Haynesfielfd for trainer Mike Maker.

Steam Has Hat Trick On Saturday’s Program

Steam gave out three winners on Saturday’s 11-race “Downs After Dark” program at Churchill Downs and, as a result, 17 days into the 2021 Spring Meet in South Louisville, its top picks are winning at a 25 percent clip and have finished in the money 55 percent of the time.

Post time for the first of 10 races at Churchill Downs on Sunday, May 23 is 12:45 P.M. (Eastern). Additionally, there is an $81,455 carryover in the 20-cent Derby City 6 (Races 5-10, 2:45 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
