A nine-race program is on the agenda at Churchill Downs on Friday, June 18, as the historic Louisville, Ky. racetrack jump starts a weekend of Thoroughbred racing action in Derby City.

The featured eighth race on the card is an $80,000 optional claiming/third tier allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward slated for an eight and one half-furlong trip on the main track.

Courtlandt Farms’ Sonneman, who will try to earn his first win of 2021, is the 5-2 morning line choice in a full field of 11. Jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr. will be astride the four-year-old son of Curlin for Hall-of-Fame trainer Steve Asmussen.

Steam touted three winners on the eight-race “Twilight Thursday” program at Churchill Downs on June 17 and, as a result, had a positive 24 percent return on investment (ROI*), or a flat-bet profit of 48 cents for each two dollars wagered on its top selections on the card.
