Turf Stakes Anchor Fourth Of July Card

An eight-race Fourth of July program featuring a pair of turf stakes is on tap on Sunday, July 4 at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky., as a holiday weekend of Thoroughbred racing comes to a close in the Tri-State area.
The card is highlighted by the $60,000 Dade Park Dash, a 5.5-furlong turf sprint for three-year-olds, and the $75,000 Ellis Park Turf Stakes for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward slated for an 8.5-furlong trip on the grass.
In the Dade Park Dash, Klein Racing’s Field Day, who annexed the William Walker Stakes at Churchill Downs in his penultimate start on April 24, is the definitive 6-5 morning line choice in a compact field of five. Jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr. will be astride the three-year-old bay son of Broken Vow for trainer Mike Maker.
In the Ellis Park Turf Stakes, Don Alberto Stable’s Dominga, an open-length winner in her last start on turf at Churchill Downs on June 13, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a field that was scratched down to six entrants. Veteran reinsman Shaun Bridgmohan has the call on the four-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper for trainer Brad Cox.
