Dirt Routers To Line Up In Friday’s Feature

Churchill Downs jump starts a weekend of live Thoroughbred racing in Derby City with a 10-race program on the docket on Friday, September 17 at the historic Louisville, Ky. racetrack.
The featured ninth race on the card is a $62,500 optional claiming/second-level allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward slated a mile and a quarter journey on the main track.
Rigney Racing, LLC’s Claytnthelionheart, winner of a 10-furlong entry-level allowance race at Saratoga on July 30, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a field that attracted 10 entrants. Tyler Gaffalione has the call on the five-year-old chestnut son of Declaration of War for trainer Philip Bauer.
Steam Has Hat Trick On Opening Day Of Meet
Steam gave out three winners on Thursday’s eight-race program at Churchill Downs and, as a result, one day into the nascent 2021 September Meet, its top picks are winning at a 38 percent clip and have finished in the money 38 percent of the time.
Additionally, there is a $1,963 carryover in the 20-cent Derby City 6 (races 5-10, 2:45 P.M. (Eastern) post time), and a $1,407 carryover in the $1 Super Hi-5 (10th race, 5:26 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
Live racing will be conducted under the Twin Spires in September on Thursdays through Sundays through October 2 with a daily post time of 12:45 P.M. (Eastern). Exceptions include a 5:00 P.M. (Eastern) first post on Thursday, September 23 and Thursday, September 30, and a 6:00 P.M. (Eastern) first post on Saturday, September 18.
