Churchill Downs closes out a four-day week of Thoroughbred racing action in Derby City with a 10-race program on the agenda on Sunday, September 19 at the venerable Louisville, Ky. racetrack.
The featured ninth race on the card is a $127,000 entry-level allowance event for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward slated for an eight-furlong trip around one-turn on the main track.
West Point Thoroughbreds, LLC, John A. Ballantyne, William T. Freeman, and Michael Valdes’ Lady Traveler, second in her most recent start at Saratoga on September 5, is the 3-1 morning line choice in a field that attracted 10 entrants. Jockey Joe Talamo will be astride the three-year-old bay daughter of Quality Road for trainer Dale Romans.
$35,513 Carryover In Derby City Six On Sunday
Steam gave out a pair of winners on Saturday’s 11-race “Downs After Dark” program at Churchill Downs and, as a result, three days into the nascent 2021 September Meet, its top picks are winning at a 17 percent clip and have finished in the money 41 percent of the time.
Additionally, there is a $35,513 carryover in the 20-cent Derby City 6 (races 5-10, 2:45 P.M. (Eastern) post time), and a $4,591 carryover in the $1 Super Hi-5 (10th race, 5:26 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
Live racing will be conducted under the Twin Spires in September on Thursdays through Sundays through October 2 with a daily post time of 12:45 P.M. (Eastern). Exceptions include a 5:00 P.M. (Eastern) first post on Thursday, September 23 and on Thursday, September 30.
