Grade 3 Stakes Highlight Saturday’s Card

An 11-race program is on tap on Saturday, October 2 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.–the penultimate day of the 2021 September Meet in Derby City.
The card features a pair of stakes races for three-year-olds and up–the $400,000 Lukas Classic (G3) to be contested at a nine-furlong trip on the main track, and the $300,000 Ack Ack Stakes (G3), a one-mile dirt test to be run around one-turn.
In the Lukas Classic (G3), Korea Racing Authority’s Knicks Go, an open-length winner of the Whitney Handicap (G1) at Saratoga in his last start on August 7, is the definitive 2-5 morning line choice in a compact field of six. Jockey Joel Rosario will be astride the five-year-old gray son of Paynter for trainer Brad Cox.
In the Ack Ack Stakes (G3), Stonestreet Stables, LLC’s Beau Liam, who is a perfect three-for-three lifetime, is the 3-1 mornng line favorite in a field that attracted nine entrants. Brian Hernandez, Jr. has the call on the three-year-old bay son of Liam’s Map for Hall-of-Fame conditioner Steve Asmussen.

Steam gave out three winners on Friday’s 10-race program at Churchill Downs and, as a result, heading into the final two days of the 2021 September Meet, its top picks are winning at a 25 percent clip and have finished in the money 63 percent of the time.
Additionally on Saturday’s card, there is a $67,967 carryover in the 20-cent Derby City 6 Jackpot (races 6-11, 3:18 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
