Two Turf Stakes On Docket On Opening Day

Gulfstream Park kicks-off its 2021-22 Championship Meet on Friday, December 3 with an 11-race program featuring a pair of turf stakes races for two-year-olds.
The sixth race on the card is the $75,000 Wait A While Stakes, an eight-furlong turf test for two-year-old fillies, while the eleventh race on the program is the $75,000 Pulpit Stakes for two-year-olds slated for a flat mile trip on the grass.
In the Wait A While Stakes, D J Stable, LLC’s Lemieux, an open-length winner of the Brethren Juvenile Fillies Stakes on a syntheic surface in Hallandale Beach on October 30, is the 5-2 morning line choice in a field that attracted nine entrants. Jockey Edwin Gonzalez has the call on the two-year-old gray daughter of Nyquist for trainer Mark Casse.
In the Pulpit Stakes, Silverton Hill, LLC’s Red Danger, a stakes winner spinting on grass at Kentucky Downs, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a full field of 12 entrants. Julien Leparoux will be astride the two-year-old chestnut son of Orb for trainer Brian Lynch.
Irad Ortiz, Pletcher Return To Defend Meet Titles

Trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr.–winners of the training and riding titles, respectively, at Gulfstream’s 2020-21 Championship Meet–will be be back to defend their titles in 2021-22. Pletcher has one starter on opening day while Ortiz, Jr. has yet to move his tack to South Florida from New York.
