11-races featuring a pair of stakes–the $75,000 Sunshine Classic Stakes and the $75,000 Sunshine Sprint Stakes–are on the docket at Gufstream Park on Saturday, January 15, as a weekend of Thoroughbred racing continues at the Hallandale Beach, Fla. racetrack.
In the Sunshine Classic Stakes, a nine-furlong dirt contest for four-year-olds and upward bred in the state of Florida, Donegal Racing’s Shamrocket, who will be making his main track debut, is the definitive 6-5 morning line choice in a field that attracted seven entrants. Hall-of-Famer Javier Castellano has the call on the bay son of Tonailist for trainer Todd Pletcher.
In the Sunshine Sprint, a six-furlong affair for four-year-olds and upward bred in the state of Florida, Michele and Lawrence Sargent’s Legal Deal, second in the Claiming Crown Rapid Transit Stakes in his last start on December 4, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a field that attracted eight entrants. Jockey Edwin Gonzalez will be astride the bay son of Khozan for trainer Carlos David.
