Friday’s Feature Off The Turf

A 10-race program is on tap at Gulfstream Park on Friday, January 21, as the Hallandale Beach, Fla. racetrack jump starts a weekend of live Thoroughbred racing in the Sunshine State.
The fifth race on the card–the nominal feature–is a $62,500 optional claiming/classified allowance contest for fillies and mares four-years-old and upward. Originally scheduled for the grass, the race has been taken off the turf and will be conested at an “about” a one-mile and 70-yard trip on Gulfstream’s all-weather Tapeta surface.
Raroma Stable’s Take Charge Ro, third as the 4-5 chalk in her most recent start off a near six-month layoff, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a compact field of six. Jockey Luis Saez will be astride the five-year-old chestnut daughter of Will Take Charge for trainer Brian Lynch.
