Off Turf Feature Plays Into Igloo’s Hand

10-races are on tap at Gulfstream Park on Sunday, January 23, as the Hallandale Beach, Fla. racetrack wraps-up a five-day week of Thoroughbred racing in the Sunshine State.
The featured ninth race on the card is a $25,000 optional claiming/first-tier allowance contest for fillies and mares four-years-old and upward. Originally scheduled for the turf, the race has been taken off the grass and will be contested at an “about” five-furlong trip on Gulfstream’s all-weather, Tapeta surface.
Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ Igloo, second in her most recent start in South Florida on December 23, is the 3-1 morning line choice in a field that attracted 11 entrants. Luis Saez has the call on the four-year-old bay daughter of Mshawish for trainer Jonathan Thomas.
