A 12-race program featuring two stakes for turf sprinters is on the docket at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla. on Saturday, February 12, as Super Bowl weekend 2022 continues in South Florida.
The card is highlighted by a pair of five-furlong turf stakes races–the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint Stakes (G3T) for four-year-olds and upward, and the $100,000 Ladies’ Turf Sprint Stakes for fillies and mares four-years-old and upward.
In the Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint Stakes (G3T), Calumet Fam’s Gear Jockey, a Grade 3 stakes winner on grass in 2021 who will be making his seasonal debut, is the prohibitive 3-5 morning line favorite in a field that attracted seven entrants. Jockey Luis Saez will be astride the five-year-old bay son of Twirling Candy for trainer Rusty Arnold.
In the Ladies’ Turf Sprint Stakes, Madaket Stables, LLC et al’s Miss J McKay, winner of the Abundantia Stakes in her most recent start on December 31, is the definitive 8-5 morning line choice in a field that attracted seven entrants. Tyler Gaffalione has the call on the five-year-old bay daughter of Hangover Kid for trainer Christophe Clement.
