Brown Poised For Fifth Win In Jenny Wiley

An 11-race program highlighted by three stakes races is on the docket at Keeneland Race Course on Saturday, April 16, as the iconic Lexington, KY racetrack closes out an abbreviated four-day week of Thoroughbred racing in the Bluegrass State.
The stakes action begins in the eighth race with the $200,000 Giant’s Causeway Stakes, a 5.5-furlong turf sprint for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward, continues in the ninth race with the the $400,000 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes (G3), an 8.5-furlong route race on the main track for three-year-olds, and concludes with the $500,000 Jenny Wiley Stakes (G1T) for fillies and mares four-years-old and upward slated for a mile an a sixteenth journey on the Haggin Turf Course.
In the Giant’s Causeway Stakes, Stonestreet Stables, LLC Campanelle (Ire), a Group 1 stakes winner in France, is the 5-2 morning line choice in a competitive field of nine. Jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. will be astride the bay daughter of Kodiac (GB) for trainer Wesley Ward.
The Lexington Stakes (G3), which has Kentucky Derby (G1) implications, attracted a full field of 11 led by 5-2 morning line favorite, Peachtree Stables’ Tawny Port. The son of Pioneerof the Nile will try to earn his first win on the dirt in the two-turn contest; Florent Geroux has the call on the $430,000 colt for trainer Brad Cox.
Finally, in the Jenny Wiley Stakes (G1T)–the program’s centerpiece–Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables, LLC, and Robert V. LaPenta’s Shantisara (Ire), a Grade 1 winner on the grass who will be making her four-year-old debut, is the 6-5 morning line choice in a compact field os six. Jockey Flavien Prat will be astride the bay daughter of Coulsty (Ire) for trainer Chad Brown, who will try to win this race for a receord fifth time.
Steam Has A Hat Trick On Friday’s Program
Steam touted three winners on Friday’s 10-race program at Keeneland and, as a result, six days into the 2022 Spring Meet in Central Kentucky, its top picks are winning at a 21 percent clip and have finished in the money 61 percent of the time. Additionally, there is a $5,468 carryover in the $1 Super Hi-5 (11th race, 6:20 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
