Two Graded Stakes Anchor Saturday’s Card

An 10-race program featuring two graded stakes races is on the agenda at Keeneland Race Course on Saturday, April 23, as a weekend of Thoroughbred racing continues at the venerable Lexington, KY racetrack.

The stakes action begins in the eighth race with the $300,000 Ben Ali Stakes (G3), a nine-furlong dirt test for four-year-olds and upward, and continues in the ninth race with the the $350,000 Elkhorn Stakes (G2T) for four-year-olds and upward slated for a 12-furlong journey on the Haggin Turf Course.

In the Ben Ali Stakes (G3), Twin Creeks Racing Stable, LLC’s Warrant, second in the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) in his most recent start on March 5, is the 2-1 morning line choice in a field that attracted seven entrants. Jockey Flavien Prat will be astride the chestnut son of Constituiton for trainer Brad Cox.

In the Elkhorn Stakes Stakes (G2T), Wachtel Stable et al’s Channel Maker, a Grade 1 stakes winner that will be making his eight-year-old debut, is the 2-1 morning line favorite in a field that attracted eight entrants. Luis Saez has the call on the chestnut son of English Channel for trainer Bill Mott.

Steam Touts Two Winners On Friday’s Program

Steam gave out a pair of winners on Friday’s 10-race program at Keeneland and, as a result, 10 days into the 2022 Spring Meet in Central Kentucky, its top picks are winning at a 23 percent clip and have finished in the money 62 percent of the time. Additionally, there is a $11,731 carryover in the $1 Super Hi-5 (10th race, 5:48 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
