Roses Up For Grabs In Derby 148
A 14-race program with eight stakes races is on tap at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 7–Kentucky Derby Day 2022 at the iconic Louisville, KY racetrack.
The card is highlighted by the 148th running of the $3 million Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) for three-year-olds slated for a 10-furlong trip on the main track.
Jeff Drown’s Zandon–an open-length winner of the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland in his last start–is the 3-1 morning line favorite in the mile and a quarter classic. Jockey Flavien Prat has the call on the son of Upstart for trainer Chad Brown.
The seven other supporting stakes races on the Derby Day undercard include the $500,000 Longines Churchill Distaff Turf Mile (G2T), the $160,000 Knicks Go Stakes presented by L&N Federal Credit Union, the $500,000 Pat Day Mile presented by LG&E and KU (G2), the $500,000 Derby City Distaff Stakes presented by Kendall-Jackson Winery (G1), the $500,000 American Turf Stakes presented by BMW (G2T), the $500,000 Churchill Downs Stakes presented by Ford (G1), and the $1 million Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic (G1T).
Steam Touts Five Winners On Oaks Program
Steam gave out five winners on Friday’s 13-race Kentucky Oaks program at Churchill Downs and, as a result, five days into the 2022 Spring Meet in Derby City, its top picks are winning at a 38 percent clip and have finished in the money 62 percent of the time.
Post time for the first of 14 races on Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 7 is 10:30 A.M. (Eastern). Additionally, there is a $89,819 carryover with a mandatory payout in the 20-cent Derby City 6 (races 7-12, 1:56 P.M. (Eastern) post time).
