Friday Feature Has Plethora Of Contenders

Churchill Downs jump starts a weekend of live Thoroughbred racing action in Derby City with a nine-race program on tap on Friday, May 13 at the historic Louisville, KY racetrack.

The featured eighth race on the card is an $80,000 optional claiming/third-tier allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward slated for an 8.5-furlong trip on the main track.

Woodford Thoroughbreds, LLC, WinStar Farm, LLC, and Rock Ridge Racing, LLC’s Promise Keeper–third in the New Orleans Classic Stakes (G3) in his last start on March 26–is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a well-matched field that attracted 10 entrants. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione has the call on the four-year-old chestnut son of Constitution for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Steam gave out one winner on Thursday’s eight-race “Twilight Thursday” program at Churchill Downs and, as a result, seven days into the 2022 Spring Meet in South Louisville, its top picks are winning at a 37 percent clip and have finished in the money 64 percent of the time with an ROI* of $2.10.
