Churchill Downs kicks-off Memorial Day weekend in Derby City with a nine-race program on the agenda on Friday, May 27 at the historic Louisville, KY racetrack.
The featured eighth race on the card is an $80,000 optional claiming/classifeid allowance event for fillies and mares three-year-olds and upward. Originally scheduled to be run on the turf, the race has been taken off the grass and will be contested at an 8.5-furlong trip on the main track.
Toshiaki Shirai’s Tiz Spendid News, a winner of her past two races, is the 2-1 morning line chice in a compact field of five. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione has the call on the four-year-old chestnut daughter of Maclean’s Music for trainer Wesley Ward.
