Rainy Forecast Puts Turf Feature In Jeopardy

Churchill Downs kicks off a five-day week of Thoroughbred racing action with an nine-race program on the docket on Wednesday, June 8 at the South Louisville, KY racetrack.

The featured eighth race on the card is a $50,000 starter allowance affair for fillies and mares three-year-olds and upward slated for a flat mile trip on the Matt Winn Turf Course. It’s worth noting, however, with an 81 percent chance of rain and gusty winds in the forecast, there is an above average chance that the race will come off the grass and be contested on a sloppy, sealed main track.

That said, Michael Dubb and Marc Detampel’s Dreamful, third as the 4-5 favorite in her most recent start under the Twin Spires on May 12, is the 8-5 morning line choice in a field that attrcated nine horses in the race’s body and one main track only entrant. Tyler Gaffalione will be astride on the four-year-old chestnut daughter of Kitten’s Joy for trainer Brad Cox.
