After a two-day hiatus due to excessive heat, live Thoroughbred racing action returns to Churchill Downs on Friday, June 17 with a nine-race program on tap at the historic Louisville, KY racetrack.
The featured fifth race on the card is a $62,500 optional claiming/second-tier allowance event for three-year-olds and upward slated for a nine-furlong journey on the main track.
OXO Equine, LLC’s coupled entry of Kittansett, a five-year-old bay son of American Pharoah and the Grade 2 stakes-winning mare Bsharpsonata, and Koolhaus, a four-year-old chestnut son of Nyquist who won his last start at Churchill Downs on May 12 by open lengths, is the even-money morning line choice in a compact field of five. Jockey Adam Beschizza will be aboard Kittansett for trainer Paulo Lobo, while Ricardo Santana, Jr. has the call on Koolhaus for trainer Brad Cox.
