Necker Island Formidable In Sunday’s Feature
Nine-races are on the agenda at Ellis Park on Sunday, July 24, as the Henderson, KY racetrack closes out a three-day run of live Thoroughbred racing action. Due to excessive heat, first post for Sunday’s card has been moved up to 10:30 A.M. (Central).
The featured eighth race on the program is the $75,000 Jeff Hall Memorial Stakes for three-year-olds and upward sprinting 6.5-furlongs on the main track.
The Scherr Boys’ Necker Island–second in his most recent start at Churchill Downs on July 2–is the 2-1 morning line choice in a field that attracted 12 horses in the race’s body and one also eligible entrant. Jockey Mitchell Murrill has the call on the five-year-old chestnut son of Hard Spun for trainer Chris Hartman.
Steam Has Two Winners On Saturday’s Program
Steam gave out a pair of winners on Saturday’s nine-race program at Ellis Park and, as a result, eight days into the 2022 summer meet at the Pea Patch, its top picks are winning at a 26 percent clip and have finished in the money 68 percent of the time.
Live racing will be conducted at Ellis Park July 8-August 28, Fridays through Sundays. There will be no racing on August 13 to accommodate a one-day program at Churchill Downs.
