Rain Forces Friday’s Races Off Turf

Eight-races are on tap at Ellis Park on Friday, August 5, as the Henderson, KY racetrack jump starts a weekend of Thoroughbred racing action in the Tri-State Area.
The featured seventh race on the program is a $61,000 allowance affair for three-year-olds that have never won two races. Originally scheduled to be run on the turf, the race has been taken off the grass and will be contested at an eight-furlong trip on the main track.
Paradise Farms Corp. et al’s St Andrews, a non-threatening seventh at 5-1 in his most recent start at Churchill Downs on June 12, is the 3-1 morning line favorite in a field that attracted 10 entrants. Jockey Gerardo Corrales is named on the bay son of Quality Road for trainer Mike Maker.
Three Winners On Sunday’s Card–$2.72 ROI
Steam gave out three winners and had a return on investment (ROI*) of $2.72 for each $2 wagered on its top picks on Sunday’s nine-race program at Ellis Park and, as a result, 12 days into the summer stand at the Pea Patch, its top selections are winning at a 31 percent clip and have finished in the money 64 percent of the time.
Post time for the first of eight races at Ellis Park on Friday, August 5 is 12:50 P.M. (Central). Additionally, there is a $13,816 carryover in the 50-cent Pick 5 (races 4-8, 2:14 P.M.) (Central) post time).
Racing will be conducted this summer at Ellis Park July 8-August 28, Fridays through Sundays. There will be no racing on August 13 to accommodate a one-day program at Churchill Downs.
