11 races are on tap at Churchill Downs on Saturday, August 13–Arlington Million Day 2022 at the historic Louisville, KY racetrack.
The card features four stakes–the $500,000 Beverly D. Stakes (G1T), a nine-furlong turf affair for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward, the $200,000 Lady Tak Stakes for for fillies and mares three-years-old and upward sprinting six-furlongs on the main track, the $200,000 Fort Larned Stakes, a mile and three-sixteenths dirt contest for three-year-olds and upward, and the $1 million Arlington Million (G1T), a nine-panel turf event for three-year-olds and upward.
In the Arlington Million 9G1T)–the card’s centerpiece–Cannon Thoroughbreds, LLC’s Smooth Like Strait, second in the Shoemaker Mile (G1T) at Santa Anita in his last start on May 30, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a field that attracted eight entrants. Hall-of-Fame jockey John Velazquez has the call on the five-year-old bay son of Midnight Lute for trainer Michael McCarthy.
